This antique transitional Mongolian wool rug from Rug & Kilim has an all-over floral design with unique Chinese inspiration. From 1860-1870, the inner border features black, meandering right-angle characters archaic Chinese symbols commonly seen in other oriental and Turkish antiques which often denote running water. More uncommon is the white accent to these black characters, meant to give depth and contrast to the copper-brown field. The rich purple in the outermost border is also seen within the finely-woven floral patterns in the center, accented by soft blue and off-white hues in thick wool pile. Quick and easy to clean.
